Stony
In January of 1995, I began work on a solo recording project. I had set up a studio in my childhood bedroom at my parents house and began writing and demoing songs on a 4-track. I finished around twenty, then narrowed them down to the twelve best. I bought Merlin's Tascam 8-track and Fostex mixer and began recording the album. I called the album "Rhythm Tracks For Breakfast" (click here to download). Then I recruited my brother and Bruce (from the Merlin band) so that I could perform this material. The band was called Stony. We played a few shows around Montreal and one in Ottawa. I made my own super low budget video for the song "In Prime Time", which borders on being embarrassing but I kind of like anyways. In April 1996, my friend Rob and I put on a huge show called "It's Alive!". We featured ten Montreal bands including Stony, Cheesecake Circus, Beverley, Thelma, Frog Machine, Joyful Road, Madison Drive, Adamtozoe and Grime. We recorded the entire show and released a cassette compilation. Just after that, I had to put Stony on the back burner because Merlin was about to release another album...
